National Day of Prayer & Teacher Appreciation
Aiden was chosen to pray for the 1st grade at the school's National Day of Prayer ceremony...which was also Teacher Appreciation Lunch :) I was busy that day on campus!

Hawaiian Day
The kids' school had a week of themed school days and the last day was Hawaiian day in honor of the principal's Hawaiian family roots. So I went all out for it, so did Michelle's boys Connor and Kenneth (who Paris is pictured with).... ALOHA!

While Mom's Away....
While my sister was out of town, I helped out Sharon and watched the my nephew and neices for the day. Mwahahahahaha....... crafts, McDonalds, candy, Coke, need I say more :) "While mom's away the kittens will play" (isn't that a saying?)

Embrace in Education Event
On Friday May 8th a group of 6 of us "Hope Girls" threw an event we called "Embrace in Education" after a photo that was taken in Uganda. A teacher, or child, had wrote those words on a chalk board and a photo was taken of it. Our goal was to try to raise at least $15,000 to build a double classroom for the True Vine facility. It is growing and growing, which is good and bad. All the kids here are orphans and they can only keep the enrollment demand going, when they have the buildings to school them inside, or the dorms to house them in. So it becomes an issue because it's Africa and there are a lot of orphans. So the idea for this event started from one "Hope Girl" named Lisa on April 1st when she wanted to start fundraising for this classroom and we all said on Facebook that we would meet at a coffee shop on April 8th and chat about it. That meeting started the planning for this event 30 days later! This event cost Hope 4 Kids $0 to put on. Everything was donated.

These dolls were made here in the US, but made just like the ones in Uganda. Lisa, Jen, Sheri and Victoria made a ton of these to leave out on the tables as party favors. Some have wine corks on their heads, like water jugs. Some have little dolls wrapped on their backs like babies. They are very cute and each hand made by a "Hope Girl". The kids in Uganda love these kind of dolls!!!

Kristi and I greeting some of our other November 2008 team members. There is Mae!! She is 81 and together (with Kristi) hosted an eye glass clinic that was AWESOME in Africa for 2 days.
Different ways people could help out that evening was to sponsor a child in Africa ($26 a month pays for food, boarding school costs, uniform costs, book costs, & medical care), sign up for a mission trip, buy 10 raffle tickets for $20, sponsor a specific item like a chalk board or desk chair, make a monetary donation or just pray for our cause and it's future!! It was a no pressure fundraiser, with no formal "ask".
Lots of tables and chairs... but not enough we discovered! We had chairs for 100, and pulled 20 more from storage and all the patio furniture was taken up and still had people standing. Final count when the speaking was going on was 170 people!
The wonderful food was catered by Babbo's... only rave reviews from the guests!!!
African drummers and dancers started the event....
Kristi's hubby, Andy opened up the evening in prayer. He is the worship pastor at Parkway Christian Church in Surprise.

"Hope Girl" Lisa gave her testimony about the trip and an overall summary about what missions can mean to a person living in Uganda.... her message was summed up in one statement, "just show up".
Angie introduces the 6 "Hope Girls" who are the hosts for the evening, Kristi ~ Shawna~ Sheri~ Lisa~ Victoria~ Jen~ We all 6 went to Uganda November 2008 and now have common bond to want to make these orphans lives better. 6 of us did not know each other, but our kids went to the same school (except Kristi, she is my cousin), and now we are all good friends!!! It was a God thing. Even 8,000 miles away...
I thanked everyone for attending the evening on behalf of the "Hope Girls" and just said how much it has changed me as a human to go there and see what I saw, and come back to a 100% different society that has no clue what is going on over there. I had nothing rehearsed and had no clue I was speaking, so I sounded a bit "flighty" :)
My sister Ashley was going to read a poem she wrote for Hope 4 Kids, but then decided to just say a few words about her feelings towards the situation in Africa.
Founder and president of Hope 4 Kids International, Tom Eggum speaks to the crowd about how this nonprofit came to be and about his work in Africa.
Pastor Wilbur gave his testimony about his life in Uganda and his walk with God. He is the pastor of True Vine Church in Uganda where Hope 4 Kids does most of their mission work and he hosts the school and clinic also on the same property as the church. It was an honor to have him in the US at the same time as our event, which was by chance he was speaking to a church in Fresno and could fly to Arizona for the night to come share with us his hopes for True Vine!

Mark Sorenson won the "relaxation basket" in the raffle... we had a lot of wonderful baskets, event tickets, gift cards, bottles of wine and much more donated to us for this event. Just in raffle ticket sales this night we raised $1400!
Everyone Socializing....
At the end of the evening, 13 orphans were sponsored, $21,000 dollars was raised (so we are building the double classroom!!) and we also had a commitment of 10 deep dug wells being sponsored. This was defintely a successful event!!!

The Viszy Award
My dad was being presented with an award at Joy's Vision Dinner, but could not attend. So guess who accepted it :) Me.... and no pictures were taken (sniff), so when I got home Evan took one of me holding the Viszy award he received (techinically I received on his behalf for his vision and foresite of the school). So now the award is at my dad's house on a shelf, with finger prints still all over it, and his company's name spelled wrong :) But that's A-OK!!! It's the thought!!
